This Anime Expo at the Los Angles Convention Center was fun, but I need to tell you guys a story about cosplay and misunderstanding. At this con there where monks dressed in orange robes and shaved heads trying to spread their religion to the con goers by handing out books and asking for donations. I being a shy person and trying to be polite tried to avoid contact with these monks to avoid my awkward refusal. I was in my costume when suddenly I found my self in a high speed chase with a monk hot on my tracks, when I was stopped when the man in the orange robe yelled “HEY YOU STOP I WANT TO TAKE YOUR PICTURE STOP RUNNING!”. At this point I was really frickin confused because I didn’t think monks were into cosplay or anime. The man came over with his camera ready and with a grin he said “Why are you running I just wanted your photo” The monk I was running from was…Avatar Aang.

So, Anime Expo.
You know how Yuki Kajiura and FictionJunction were all at AX, right?
And you know how FictionJunction includes Kaori Oda, right?
And you know Kaori Oda is also part of Sound Horizon, right?
Well, you see, today I spent a good half of my day dicking around in the Dealers’ Room, because that’s what you do when you go to an anime convention - spend ridiculous amounts of money on things you don’t need. That, and coming up with dumb questions to ask your favorite voice actors.
Anyways, as I was at this booth looking at the selection of artbooks they had when I came across their display of FictionJunction CDs and DVDs. I only gave them a casual glance-over, since my convention purchasing priorities basically go in the order of 1) artbooks, 2) figurines, 3) plushies, 4) t-shirts, 5) cheap or old manga I can’t find easily in other places, 6) food, and CDs are nowhere on that list, much less at the top of it. However, said quickly glanced-over display immediately snatched my attention and strangled it to death when I realized that, in the far corner of that display, was no FictionJunction CD. Oh no.
It was this:
For those of you who cannot make it out from my shitty iPhone camera quality picture, that’s the Sound Horizon Chronology CD. The picture looks a bit weird because it’s not a picture at all - it’s a crazy-elaborate holographic image that shows either Elysion, Roman, Seisen no Iberia, Moira, IdoIdo, or Marchen depending on the angle, because Revo evidently mandates that every album box be a design student’s orgasm at the bare minimum.
As you can assume from the fact that this CD is currently on my blanket instead of a dealer’s table, I bought it. Instantly. Even though I already own every song on the damn thing. It turns out I have this bizarre affliction wherein the physical presence of SH merchandise drives me to shove a fistful of twenties into the cashier’s arms and shout, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.”
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
‘Cause, like I said, Yuki Kajiura was at AX as a guest of honor, and by extension was also going to hold an autograph signing. And by Yuki Kajiura, I mean FictionJunction. And by FictionJunction, I mean Kaori Oda. And by Kaori Oda, I mean HOLY SHIT THERE’S A SOUND HORIZON MEMBER HERE AND I HAVE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH THEMSWJHWJKLHfoihjkaxhflksadlhl.
*Ahem*
So, autographs. Right. They were today at 4:30. It was 3:00, and I now had a $50 box that was screaming PLEASE, PLEASE GET ME SIGNED BY KAORI! at me.
And so I spent an hour and a half with my ass parked in front of the autograph booths with one hilariously expensive CD (seriously, Japan. Why is everything you sell so goddamn expensive) in one hand and a wallscroll for Yuki and the rest of FJ to sign in the other.
And ladies and gentlemen?
I got that motherfucker signed.
Also, by
obsessive fannishnessbizarre coincidence, I was cosplaying as Elef. Yes, Kaori did notice and, yes, she did comment upon it. I can now officially say that I have spoken to a Sound Horizon member, in as much as two individuals who speak entirely different languages can speak to each other. Also, she hummed Stardust.
So, uh, today was kind of awesome like that, ridiculous wait aside.
The spoils from my shopping spree. >w<
I hope I get Yuumei and Hakuku’s work next time!
